TRANSLATION OF NATIONAL-SPECIFIC VOCABULARY OF MODERN SERIES

Abstract

The present article is devoted to the study of translating’s ways of national-specific vocabulary found in modern TV series.

The article deals directly with such methods of translating national-specific language units as: by transcription or transliteration exclusively; by transcription or transliteration and explication of their genuine nationally specific meaning; by descriptive explaining/explication only; by translation of componental parts and additional explication of units of the nationally biased lexicon; by ways of word-for-word or loan translation and translating by means of semantic analogies. It should also be noted that the socio-cultural aspect includes the vocabulary of a diverse spectrum, therefore the methods of translation for each of these branches differ, and taking into account the fact that the adaptation of cinematographic products has separate aspects and nuances, among which there are both details related to the format of the original source, as well as peculiarities in the processing and transmission of the meanings of specific vocabulary, as well as that that when working with series, the choice of a specific method of translating this or that lexical unit is always accompanied by an analysis and taking into account a large number of factors, such as: the context and its meaning in it; the plot relevance of this unit; the number of timekeeping; possible translation options and their expediency; the prevalence of a concept or term among the target audience; specificity of the content; features of stylistic coloring that must be preserved; interpretation of the lexical unit in the language of translation and the probability of creating a false opinion, etc., it is also important to note that not every method is suitable for use in working with the translation of series.

The results of the study demonstrate that the socio-cultural aspect is an integral part of the speech with which each translator meets in his professional activity, and television series are often created taking into account the global audience, so the translation process can be more flexible, because that is why the translation methods used by specialists to create a holistic and authentic impression for the audience, where the translated work is felt naturally and retains the same influence as the original.
