COGNITIVE-DISCOURSE MODELING OF THE PROCESS OF TRANSLATING CULTURAL INFORMATION OF A LITERARY TEXT

This study aims to outline the sequential stages of the process of translating cultural information in a literary text and to describe their cognitive content. The topicality of such research is determined by the need to study the mental processes of translating cultural information. The article analyzes the gains of cognitive and cognitive-discourse models of the translation process; outlines the sequential stages of the process of translating cultural information of a literary text and describes their cognitive content; analyzes the mechanisms of identifying cultural information. From the perspective of cognitive-discourse modeling, we consider the translation of cultural information within the framework of the sequential deployment of three phases. During the interpretation phase of the original text, a ST megaconcept with conceptual, figurative and value components is determined. The identification of cultural information within the conceptual component of the ST megaconcept makes it possible to analyze its denotative information, represented by such lexical markers as anthroponyms and toponyms, objective and some cognitive realia, historicisms, outdated vocabulary, dialect, etc.; within the figurative component – to analyze typical associations that cause semantic-verbal and stylistic-verbal images of ST as well as to analyze conceptual metaphors and metaphorical mapping; within the value component – to analyze implicit and explicit evaluative actions of the axiological structure of the text. In the second phase, the ST megaconcept is projected onto the world picture of the target language. Identifying areas of commonality and difference makes it possible to model the conceptual structure of the TT and to determine a global translation strategy aimed at recreating the ST megaconcept as a whole. In the phase of creating a translation text, the components of the ideal megaconcept of the TT are embodied in material form using local strategies, tactics, and techniques of translation aimed at solving specific problems of translating cultural information.
