Abstract

The article emphasizes the role of concepts and their verbalization within cognitive linguistics. The main attention is paid to the analysis of the ways in which concepts as basic units of thinking form are the lexical and semantic structures of languages. The metaphorical and metonymic models underlying the categorization of the world, as well as cultural and linguistic factors that influence the formation of lexemes, are studied separately. The paper examines modern approaches of foreign and Ukrainian linguists to the study of the relationship between language, thinking and culture. The aim of the article is to study the relationship between concepts and lexical units in modern linguistic and cognitive approaches. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of cultural aspects that determine the formation and functioning of lexemes in different language communities, in particular in the English and Ukrainian traditions.
