GRAMMATICAL TRANSFORMATIONS APPLICATION IN THE TRANSLATION OF FAIRY TALE "PUSS IN BOOTS" BY BROTHERS GRIMM FROM GERMAN INTO UKRAINIAN

Abstract

The article examines the application of grammatical translation transformations. It explores theoretical approaches to defining the concepts of translation "equivalence" and "adequacy" and highlights their role in ensuring the high-quality rendering of the content, stylistic features, and artistic value of the literary work. The study analyzes scholarly approaches to the classification of translation transformations as presented in the works of V. Karaban, L. Hordieieva, A. Naumenko, T. Kyiak, and O. Ohui. It is established that, despite the absence of a unified classification of translation transformations, researchers unanimously recognize them as a crucial means of achieving adequacy in literary translation.

The primary focus is on analyzing the grammatical transformations employed in the translation of the fairy tale «Puss in Boots». Specific examples are used to examine replacement, partitioning and integration, as well as grammatical additions and omissions. It is established that the use of these transformations is driven by differences between the grammatical systems of German and Ukrainian, the specific features of their syntactic organization, and the need to adapt the text to the norms of the Ukrainian literary language. It has been demonstrated that the use of grammatical transformations contributes to preserving the semantic, stylistic, and communicative integrity of a literary work, ensuring its natural perception by the reader.

The study results confirm that grammatical transformations are an integral tool in literary translation and a crucial factor in achieving translation adequacy. They enable the recreation of the author's intent, the preservation of the work's artistic expressiveness, and the adaptation of the text to Ukrainian linguistic norms. The findings can be applied in further research on the theory and practice of literary translation, as well as in the training of future translators and philologists.
