The article is devoted to a comprehensive linguistic analysis of phraseological units functioning in the professional speech of healthcare professionals. The relevance of the study is determined by the specifics of medical discourse, which requires not only terminological precision but also emotional resilience, conciseness, and empathy during interpersonal interaction in extreme conditions. The paper attempts a classificatory ranking of so-called medical phraseologisms, distinguishing Latin expressions, professional slang, and constructions with a semantic constituent of the human body's limit state, among others.
Special attention is paid to the functional aspect: the study examines how phraseological units contribute to the economy of language, provide psychological relief for medical staff, and help avoid excessive patient traumatization through the use of euphemisms. The study analyzes the specifics of phraseologisms as a defense mechanism, expressed through stable ironic expressions.
It has been established that the mechanism of implementing phraseological units in the professional communication of healthcare professionals depends on the situational variability of the context. The strategy of communicative contact depends on the stages of doctor-patient interaction: from the initial medical history taking to diagnostics and determining the treatment tactics for the disease.
The study emphasizes that medical phraseology is a dynamic system, constantly updated under the influence of technological development and changes in the sociocultural environment. The results demonstrate that mastering this layer of vocabulary is an essential component of a physician's professional competence, as it facilitates rapid mutual understanding within the corporate group. The theoretical significance of the article lies in clarifying the concept of "medical phraseologism," while its practical value is found in the potential use of these materials to improve the speech culture of future healthcare professionals. The study justifies the differentiation of phraseology for internal use within professional medical communication and "doctor-patient" communication, where empathy and psychological compatibility become the defining characteristics of interaction.
