Vasyl Dobrianskyi's novel has not actually been studied by literary critics, and therefore, the study of various aspects of the poetics of the work "The choice of Captain Kotliarevskyi. Burning Europe", including the poetics of everyday life in the structure of the text, is relevant. Everyday life in history and culturology is currently studied more than in the literature. It is evidenced by the appearance of numerous works in history and culturology studies. However, the interdisciplinary nature of research indicates the prospects of this area for the interpretation of literary texts. This is especially true for texts that depict the historical epoch.
In Vasyl Dobrianskyi's novel, the action simultaneously unfolds in two time planes: the Napoleonic era and the present. The territory where the events of the historical part take place is Europe, from France to Ukraine. The space of modern part of events is Ukraine, the provincial town of Pryhorshch in Vinnytsia region. According to the description of the journey, the plot of the work unfolds, and everyday life is described as everyday life in motion, dynamic change of places and people, which made it possible to show a panoramic picture of Europe, not without reason the subtitle of the novel "Notes on Burning Europe". A historical work can recreate the atmosphere of an epoch by depicting of everyday life routine. Everyday life of the historical epoch appears as an author's version of artistic reality, and especially when the writer introduces famous historical figures and writers (Napoleon, Kotliarevskyi, Stendhal, etc.) into the text, introduces the text in the text to give historical credibility to the image.
Everyday life of individuals is both Napoleonic everyday life and the life of the chevalier Nanteil and his company, the life of a policeman and an old school teacher and other characters in the novel. Such, at first glance, a mosaic picture of the everyday life of the heroes is the everyday life of the era, the everyday life of "burning Europe". In fact, it was possible to combine this colorful world into a single system thanks to the introduction of a link that connects the two temporal layers in the text – the figure of Ivan Kotliarevskyi and his work "Aeneid". A bizarre figure invisibly exists in the text, the writer is present only indirectly: in the memories of Napoleon, letters and stories of the characters. However, Kotliarevskyi appears as a significant, even fateful, figure in the everyday life of most heroes.
