In the article the author focuses on the coverage of genre and style features of the prose of the small epic form of the Ukrainian diaspora writer Oleksa Hai-Golovko. It was found that the writer sought to structure the story "Confession of the Golden Rose" in such a way that the suggestive function was performed by plot-compositional elements, artistically enhancing dialogues with psychological-verbal dominants, existential components of tension, at the heart of which is the struggle, the constant suffering of the character from being on the verge of life and death. The textual structure of the story shows that the prose writer resorted to the ellipticity of language, the use of simplified syntactic constructions, language standards, the use of modal words, exclamations, rhetorical questions, as well as the use of extralinguistic means (facial expressions, gestures).
It is revealed that in O. Gai-Golovko's short prose existential dimensions are produced in several parameters. The dominants of the character 's reflection and the features of the author' s idiostyle, poetological parameters of modeling the art world are revealed. Emphasis is placed on the variety of artistic history of the narrator, which is identified with the author's worldview. Stories and short stories in the collection "Desperate" are written in a concentrated style, because realistic drawings, snatched from the flow of life, are full not only of events and feelings, but also permeated with stylistic diffusion of symbolism, impressionism, neorealism, and the image of the platonic love of Denis and the Golden Rose is saturated with elements of neo-romanticism.
